From Breast Cancer Survivor to Helping Other Women Thrive

Reception

My journey through menopause, healing, faith, and hope.

Everyone celebrates when you finish breast cancer treatment. They ring the bell. They tell you you’re strong. They call you a survivor.

But what many people don’t talk about is what comes next.

Six years ago, I was diagnosed with estrogen receptor-positive and progesterone receptor-positive breast cancer. I also learned I was BRCA2 positive. Today, by the grace of God, I’m incredibly grateful to be a breast cancer survivor.

Like many survivors, I continue taking a daily medication prescribed by my care team to reduce my risk of recurrence. While I’m thankful for that protection, it also brought challenges I never expected.

The cancer was gone. But I still didn’t feel like myself.

Menopause Hit Me Like a Truck

Menopause came suddenly. Fatigue. Brain fog. Aching joints. Poor sleep. Weight changes. Mood changes. A body that no longer felt familiar.

I remember looking in the mirror and thinking, “Who is this woman?”

I understood what was happening medically. But understanding it didn’t make living through it any easier.

One of the hardest realities was knowing that because my breast cancer was hormone-sensitive, hormone replacement therapy wasn’t an option for me. I had to find another path.

That journey eventually inspired me to create Revive Wellness & Beauty, a place where women feel heard, supported, and cared for as individuals, not just treated for a list of symptoms.

Building My Own Wellness Plan

There wasn’t one treatment that changed everything. Instead, I worked closely with my own care team to build a wellness plan around my specific medical history and what was appropriate for a hormone-sensitive diagnosis.

Following breast cancer treatment, I also developed lymphedema, something many survivors quietly live with long after treatment ends. Managing it is still part of my life today.

My personal approach has focused on consistency: working with my providers, paying attention to how my body responds, and adjusting as I go. It hasn’t been a single fix or a straight line. It’s been an ongoing process, the same kind of process I now help my own patients build for themselves.

Every woman’s journey looks different, because every woman’s health history is different. That’s the foundation of how we built Revive: every patient gets a plan designed around her, not a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Faith Carried Me Through

Throughout this journey, my faith in Jesus became my greatest source of strength. There were days filled with fear. Days filled with uncertainty. Days when I wondered what my future would look like.

But God never left me. He gave me peace when I was anxious, hope when I felt discouraged, and strength when I thought I had none left.

Looking back, I truly believe He brought purpose from my pain.

My Journey Became Our Journey

Breast cancer didn’t just change my life. It changed our family’s story. After my diagnosis, both of my daughters learned they also carry the BRCA2 gene.

As a mother, there are few conversations more difficult than telling your children they may face many of the same health challenges you did. At first, it felt heartbreaking. But over time, I realized that knowledge is powerful. Because we know our risks, we can be proactive.

Today, one of the greatest blessings in my life is that I have the privilege of working alongside my daughters at Revive Wellness & Beauty. Caring for women isn’t just our profession. It’s personal.

Why I Care So Deeply

My experiences have given me a deeper compassion for women walking through menopause, breast cancer recovery, chronic fatigue, lymphedema, and all the emotions that often come with them.

When I sit across from a patient who tells me she doesn’t recognize herself anymore, I don’t just hear her words. I understand them. Because I’ve lived them.

There Is Hope

If you’re reading this because you’re struggling through menopause, recovering after breast cancer, living with lymphedema, or simply wondering why your body feels so different than it used to, I want you to know this: there is hope.

Your symptoms are real. You are not alone. And while your journey may not look exactly like mine, I hope my story reminds you that healing isn’t always about finding one miracle treatment. Sometimes it’s about finding the right combination of medical care, healthy lifestyle changes, faith, perseverance, and people who truly care about you.

Thank you for allowing me to share a piece of my journey.

P.S. If you’re a breast cancer survivor navigating menopause, lymphedema, or simply trying to feel like yourself again, I’d be honored to meet you.

With gratitude,
Maggie Vincent, MSN, APRN
